From a home-cooked meal to a dish from a restaurant, food brings back certain memories. Food is a point of connection to a place, a situation or a person from the past. We can all relate to the famous scene from the movie Ratatouille; when food critic Anton Ego takes his first bite of Remy's Ratatouille, he has a flashback to his childhood. In the scene, his mother sees that he was upset from falling off his bike and offers him a nice hot bowl of her home-cooked ratatouille. For Ego, this dish evoked nostalgia. Just like that bowl of ratatouille, comfort food is a tangible source that helps us feel grounded by reconnecting us to positive memories. This project explores various foods and memories associated with Dakota's childhood that give her a sense of warmth and contentment.
